Hali McAlpine

Hali McAlpine

Violin, Piano

Biography

Hali began studies on the violin at age 4, with piano studies shortly thereafter, followed by voice and viola. While still an early teen, she was invited to join the Oakway Symphony as a professional violinist, and toured with the Sarisan Dance Ensemble as one of its orchestra members. Many other orchestras in her home state of Michigan would soon follow. While serving as concertmaster of her high school orchestra, Hali was selected by her conductor to teach private music lessons to the younger students. Thus began a great love of teaching which has endured for over 25 years.

As a teacher, Hali worked for many different music schools, studios, and conservatories in Michigan, Connecticut, Northern Virginia, and California, teaching students from age 3 to 80+. Her teaching talents became so sought after, that a fellow music teacher of a Northville Michigan school began private studies with Hali. She became known as "the teacher of teachers.” Hali has coached students for college entrance auditions, and prepared many school age students for auditions.

Hali studied with top professionals from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and chose Wayne State University to continue these studies; receiving her Bachelor’s Degree and continuing up to courses at the Master’s level. She holds a Master’s Degree from Fairfield University in Connecticut, where she also played in the Danbury Symphony and worked in arts administration with the Norwalk Symphony.

She has served as Concertmaster, Assistant Concertmaster, and Principal Second Violin to many esteemed orchestras.

She has worked with such noted maestros as Leonard Slatkin and Gustav Meier; the talents of Benjamin Bratt, Kathryn Hahn, Viola Davis, Lin Manuel-Miranda, and Dick Van Dyke; classical artists Annie Akiko Meyers, Elmar Olivera, Midori, Edgar Meyer, Awadagin Pratt, and many more. Hali was a violinist for the Washington D.C. Premier of Sir Paul McCartney's “Ecce Cor Meum” at the National Cathedral.

Equally at home on the stage with her classical symphony orchestras, you can also find Hali jamming on violin and vocals with her Celtic bands; and violin, keys, and vocals with her Folk/Jazz band.

In 2005 Hali was invited to join the prestigious Disneyland Candlelight Orchestra where she has performed for over two decades. Continuing her work with The Walt Disney Company, she starred in staged productions in the Disneyland parks. Hali also has the honor of performing with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra with artists such as Chrissie Hyde, Pentatonix, and, her personal favorite, The Muppets!
